HOW FILL THE GAP WORKS
Fill the Gap (FTG) is a telephone
helpline staffed by caring and compassionate trained
survivor volunteers. FTG operates on a local level and in
collaboration with Maine and New Hampshire seacoast
hospitals. The Executive Director and/or the Volunteer
Coordinator are responsible for training the volunteers, the
daily management of FTG and scheduling volunteer shifts.
WHAT IS FILL THE GAP?
The mission of FTG is to provide newly diagnosed or
potential cancer patients, family and friends with a
compassionate listener who will be able to provide
information and referrals to appropriate support services in
the caller’s community. Through collaboration with the
local hospitals, FTG will educate/inform area health care
providers of FTG services and toll free phone number. Area
healthcare providers will be encouraged to provide FTG phone
contact information to appropriate patients and their
families.
FTG can be contacted by:
- The individual facing, or having a cancer diagnosis
- Family members of the individual
- Friends
FTG services are targeted for the initial time frame from
first awareness of a possible problem through entry into
treatment. |
