As a Fill the Gap (FTG) Volunteer Peer Counselor you
will:
- Be a cancer survivor having completed your own
active treatment.
- NOT be providing medical recommendations. You will
be a compassionate listener and refer the caller to the
appropriate resources.
- Submit an application along with three (3)
references (with one recommendation from a healthcare
provider).
- Complete volunteer training and receive
certification.
- Participate in continuing education programs,
in-services and re-certification as appropriate.
- Attend volunteer meetings.
- Abide by the guidelines and policies of FTG as
outlined in the FTG Training and Resource Manual.
- Complete confidentiality training, sign the FTG Code
of Ethics and observe caller confidentiality.
- Complete documentation of caller contact at the time
of the call. This will include information for FTG use,
program improvement and QA.
- Provide the Executive Director (ED) /Volunteer
Coordinator (VC) with a schedule of availability for
shifts. It is imperative that you have telephone
availability during your assigned shift. Appropriate
notice will be given to the ED/VC when you aren’t
available (i.e. vacation, illness, etc).
- Inform the ED/VC if for any reason you are unable to
perform your duties as a FTG volunteer and request a
leave of absence.
- You will participate in FTG evaluation. Your input
in ways to improve FTG for the caller, volunteer and
local services is extremely important and valued.

Fundraising Volunteer
As a fundraising volunteer, you will help the
organization conduct fundraising events appropriate to your
skill level and interest that will support the FTG program.
This may include: coordinating events, publicity, securing
volunteers, and soliciting donations.
General Help
As someone who wants to help the organization behind the
scenes in a general way, your help may come in the form of
office help, errands, research, or assisting with a
volunteer training, depending on your skill level and
interests.
Committee Members
Volunteers are needed on a variety of committees from
those that are standing and meet on a regular basis to those
that are ad hoc and meet for a short time to accomplish a
specific goal.
Board of Directors
The Board of Directors manages the business of the
corporation and consists of five (5) to eleven (11) members
including representatives from the collaborating hospitals.
Directors are nominated and voted on by the Board of
Directors for three (3) year terms.
